BRE Hanson OpenHub

The Hanson EcoHouse is a full scale concept dwelling, and includes a significant demonstration of smart home solutions, integrated with a high speed fibre community network at BRE’s Innovation Park at Garston, Watford.

The smart home solution suite - the result of a collaborative project between Hanson, BRE and OpenHub - aims to raise the UK market profile of the benefits of smart homes and connected communities.
The showcase demonstrates that integrated smart home solutions are cost effective and provide significant benefits for volume housing developments, including major opportunities for:
• Monitoring and management of energy and water use;
• Local and remote control of access and security;
• The delivery into the home of community services, including healthcare and education;
• Creating local connected communities.

Open Hub
OpenHub has worked together with Hanson in the design of their new Innovation Park house, to develop economic ways of designing smart technology into buildings constructed using the MMC. OpenHub installed the in-home wiring as well as co-ordinating the installation and integration of equipment and services from a range of suppliers. OpenHub is the BRE Innovation Park partner responsible for its digital infrastructure and has provided a full Community Digital Management Centre and associated innovative services connected via a fibre-optic broadband network to all buildings on the Innovation Park.
